the call about a drowning arrived at Republiek, they found out that the victim was a 13-year-old boy who had joined a youth camp that started on April 7th and that would be concluded on April 11th. The other members of the group realized that JB was nowhere to be found when they were getting ready to leave. A man who was on the other side of the creek claimed that he had witnessed the boy drowning. He managed to pull the teenager out of the water but attempts to reanimatie him were unsuccessful. A doctor from the RGD clinic at Zanderij pronounced the death of the boy. The boy’s family objected to an autopsy so the Public Prosecutor's Office released the body. The Police Force Suriname (KPS) urged parents and guardians to keep an eye on their children at all times especially when they go to vacation resorts that are located outside the city. “Always make sure that children go swimming under the supervision of adults.”
