violent situation that claimed lives, left people injured and also left private property destroyed. Justice and Police Minister Harish Monorath revealed that two people had died and that multiple people were injured. During the aftermath of the incident people set fire so police units and other armed forces were deployed on a large scale. There were several people present when the explosion happened in the Royal Hill well.

Reports indicate that a man fell into the mine shaft and that the lifeless body of another man was taken out of the well. After several hours the minister confirmed that two people were dead. Multiple people sustained injuries. One of the people sustained serious head injuries and received medical treatment on site before being transported to another location for follow up treatment. There is no exact figure to indicate how many are injured but officials pointed out that the situation was very serious. Many people panicked after the explosion and tensions quickly started to rise in the area.

The minister explained that conflicts arose between the illegal prospectors, the workers of Zijin and the security guards. These tensions quickly escalated and resulted in violence and vandalism. Several facilities were attacked and a checkpoint was set on fire while security cameras were destroyed. As a result of the violent events the company has haltes its operations in the area. “The infrastructure has received heavy blows,” said the minister. The authorities responded swiftly by deploying police units and special teams to get the situation under control. A search and arrest operation was launched to track down the perpetrators and prevent more irregularities. The National Coordination Center for Disaster Control (NCCR) was also deployed to provide assistance. Additional police units have already arrived in the area to restore law and order. All of the company’s activities in the well have been put on hold and the workers who were present were evacuated. The authorities are keeping a close eye on the situation and remain in constant contact with the teams that have been deployed in the area in order to get a clear picture of what happened and how many people sustained injuries or died. For now the situation remains tense and the area has therefore been closed off.
